Pregnancy Symptom: Heartburn
“So annoying! I feel like if I blow hard enough fire will come out of my mouth.” – AKussard
What it feels like: Burning and discomfort in your throat, chest and stomach.
What causes it: Hormones relax the muscles of your GI tract, allowing stomach acid to back up into your esophagus.
When it starts & ends: Heartburn starts as early as month 2 and can last throughout pregnancy.
“It’s been hard to eat. Just thinking about food gives me heartburn.” – ToelupetuMommy
What to do about it: Ask your doctor which meds are safe. Eat smaller portions more frequently. Try snacking on almonds or papaya. Sugar-free gum can help, too.
When to talk to the doctor: If your heartburn is persistent or if it causes vomiting, give your practitioner a call.
